Derek brings years of international service and cross-cultural knowledge with a particular expertise in library and cultural project types. As the Perkins+Will practice leader for all types of libraries, Derek has lead the planning and design for a wide range of libraries including community libraries, large central facilities, academic research libraries, and scholarly archives. Derek works closely with clients to build collaborative solutions to complex problems.
Derek earned his Master of Architecture from Princeton University and his Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University. Derek has served as an adjunct teacher at Princeton University and continues to teach at Duke University. He is proficient in Chinese and Japanese and is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the American Association of Museums.
