Sultanbeyli is a rapidly growing suburb located on the Asia side of Istanbul. The area was mostly farmland until the 1950s when the land was parceled for settlement. The town center was developed bordering on the main highway connecting Istanbul to Ankara. A major pedestrian plaza infrastructure forms a significant retail and community center for Sultanbeyli. DKY Sultanbeyli is sited on the land connecting the pedestrian plaza and the highway. The program consists of 36,000 square meters of retail and commercial space and 21,500 square meters of residential space. A significant public space becomes the link to the development site and community center. Forming three fingers that reach on to the pedestrian plaza, two major retail corridors welcome shoppers from the pedestrian plaza into the heart of the mixed-use site. Intricately detailed trellises cover the retail streets providing both a sense of outdoor enclosure and distinctive identity. A public park forms an internal community space flanked by sculptural residential towers.
